UPDATE 1-Rambus wins Hynix case, awarded $307 mln
Mon Apr 24, 2006 12:54 PM ET

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 24 (Reuters) - A U.S. jury handed computer technology and research company Rambus Inc. (RMBS.O: Quote, Profile, Research) a big legal victory on Monday by finding that South Korea's Hynix Semiconductor Inc. (000660.KS: Quote, Profile, Research) violated patents on memory chip technology.

The jury in the U.S. District Court for Northern California in San Jose ordered Hynix, the second-biggest maker of memory chips in the world, to pay $307 million to Rambus, which developed technology to make such chips run faster.

The jury awarded $30.5 million regarding patents on a type of DRAM computer memory known as SDRAM and $276.4 million on a type known as DDRSD.

Rambus shares were halted before the verdict was announced at $38.33, a drop of 27 cents for the day in Nasdaq trade.

The case, which went to trial a month ago after six years of legal wrangling, is being closely watched in the $20 billion-a-year market for computer memory chips known as DRAM, or dynamic random access memory.

Rambus has similar suits pending with other memory chip makers such as No. 1 Samsung Electronics (005930.KS: Quote, Profile, Research), also of South Korea.

Will be interested in Analysts comments and looking for new coverage, especially by any of the big wirehouses. This will drive retail demand.

Mr. Edelstone, why not be the first??
