"Marketing ploy" for what? "Enough revenues"! When you think about it, that's a little on the absurd side. It's like that old country music lyric, "a girl too pretty".
Big companies need to reinvest portions of their income after dividends and share buybacks, why not a little diversification?
We invested in this technology with high hopes and now Google has also.
