Monkey, I'm not a scientist, but as I understand it, the problem with Hydrogen has always been that until now, ALL methods of hydrogen production required greater energy input than the produced hydrogen would put out. The microbic production of hydrogen, particularly that which can limit the co-production of methane (a greenhouse gas)has all the potential (and risk should it prove untenable) of cold-fusion.

Regarding wind-powered hydrolosis, I suspect the manufacture of the wind generators uses more energy than their electric output would produce in hydrogen, although given enough time, how much I have no idea, the energy expended will be made up. However the bottom line is that using electricity to produce hydrogen is wasting energy.
