They are all related, the MPDD being much older technology. The contacts and the MEMS app platform are related. If you look, you'll find that much of Marcus's work in MEMS has been focused on vision and optics.

This next prediction has nothing to do with epgl at present, but I wouldn't be surprised to see MEMS, in the next few years, become the key to unlocking quantum computing. It all depends on how small we can go and then how we interface with the apparent change in physics from Newtonian to Quantum.
