KTF Aligns With MS, HP, Intel ...
KTF, the nation¡¯s second largest mobile carrier, said yesterday it signed a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft, Hewlett- Packard and Intel to jointly develop and market wireless Internet applications worldwide.
The alliance paves the way for us to export our wireless Internet systems and solutions,¡± according to Song Joo-young, vice president for KTF¡¯s new business division.
Under the agreement, the four companies will introduce a comprehensive wireless Internet platform in August. The platform, called K-MAC, will include software, hardware, applications, operating technologies and business consulting.
The platform will rely on software giant Microsoft¡¯s Windowsbased operating system and mobile services delivery platform for the wireless Internet. HP, the world¡¯s second largest PC maker, will supply servers and storage equipment. Chip giant Intel will supply technology for consolidating servers, KTF said.
Unlike the company¡¯s conventional wireless Internet platform which only supports the CDMA (code division multiple access) standard, the new system will be compatible with the Europebacked GSM (global standard for mobile communications).
