Yes, the only way to get any provisional number or any information about the filing is to call the company directly.
No information can be retrieved from the USPTO until the inventor/company goes the next step and files a non-provisional patent. Which could be in a year from now.
Not all provisional patents go to the next step of non-provisional.
I just hung up from the USPTO, they give ZERO information on provisional patents. They do not even verify if the number is a valid number. All top secret as far as the USPTO goes.
So, in three years (maybe more) it will be seen if the provisional patent turned into a non-provisional patent and then into actual patent.
