Got me there. But why 20 years then? Ever hear of a patent application taking 20 years for a decision?

I know you were just working off rough memory. I do recall something about 20 years. I'm thinking that's the total length of protection, starting from when we first got pending protection with the initial, temporary US application, that was used as the filing date for the international application.
