I wouldn't go so far as to simplify it that much. There are some incumbents who have and always will go to bat for the middle class, or what's left of the middle class. Now it's more like lower middle class and those in outright poverty.

Everyone should do themselves a favor and become more familiar with the history of why we are in the fix we are. If that means devoting more time to self education in things always thought not to be of great importance, then so be it. The book "The Crash of 2016" condenses the process in a very easy to understand way. It's well worth the little time required to read it and could pay huge dividends in the future.
