The time required for FDA and 510k clearance for new medical devices has been increasing over the past few years. This because of the presumed increased cost in health care they can bring. Hopefully this won't happen with SPORT since it is being designed to be at least cost neutral when compared to current laparoscopic surgery. Also, I would hope the FDA can see the benefit of ending the monopoly imposed by Intuitive which stifles robotic surgery innovation and drives up cost.
