The Cardiac Kid, a Transfer Agent's only job is to keep track of stock;

People calling would take them away from what? Stocks with ungagged T/As welcome calls and usually respond to E-Mails within 5-15 minutes.

Companies choose T/As that have a gag policy on purpose and could easily switch to a different one if they wanted shareholders to have accurate. Outstanding Share count numbers.
