I've been to a LOT of conventions in my time and here's what I've learned.
Free liquor and food will ALWAYS generate a crowd. And, true, they might remember who sponsored it. But will such a gesture actually generate any additional sales?
Ummm..not likely.
First of all.. how many were potential customers and how many were other VENDORS and COMPETITORS?
Secondly, anyone who actually want's to buy a product will do so regardless of such freebies.
Does throwing money around willy-nilly produce bottom line results? Hardly. I'll bet you 90% of those lapping up APT's liquor were talking about their own products or deals with other vendors whose products they were excited about.
Marketing is all about skillful targeting. Once you've screened and evaluated potential clients, then YES... wine and dine THEM.. not every slob with a lanyard around his neck.
Once again.. Troy Covey hardly has pot to p*ss in yet he's throwing money around like a Las Vegas whale. "Fake it till ya make it" hasn't exactly worked for him so far.
My "opinion" is as valid as your "hearsay"
