Ebola Treatment Maker Takes New Steps to Increase Production
"Another option to increase supplies: Mapp said it is working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a pharmaceutical company that it declined to name to use animal cells instead of tobacco plants to manufacture ZMapp. Mapp said the partners will use cells derived from the ovaries of Chinese hamsters, a cell type known by the acronym CHO that is frequently used to produce proteins that can be turned into drugs."
