About Mining in the Phillipines
In geologic terms, the archipelago comprises a structurally complex island arc located at the juncture of two major tectonic plates; the Philippines Plate to the east and Eurasian plate to the west. However, in detail, as Figure 1 shows, the tectonic situation is much more complex. This geologic complexity has resulted in the Philippines being one of the most intensely gold - copper mineralized island arcs on earth. Indeed, on the western half of the Pacific Rim of Fire, only Irian Jaya - Papua New Guinea rivals the Philippines in their prospectivity for gold and copper. The eastern section of the Island of Mindanao ranks as a "World Class Gold - Copper District".
