I think commercialization for the ACT AMD and SMD treatments will come more quickly than has previously been the general case. One of Lanza's brilliant decisions was to develop an initial stem cell treatment effort for diseases of the eye. One important factor is that there are several ways to monitor the effect of the RPEs on eye including looking right at the cells and confirming engraftment of the cells and subsequent functioning as well as any impact on the functioning of the surrounding cells and cell layers subsequent to the RPEs engraftment and functioning. Also, any bad effects can be observed and, if possible, corrected, ie tumor formation, but there seem to be none.

It seems to me that the documentation of safety and improved functioning can be so clearly and well established in the eye that the benefits of the treatment, if the results do show significant and safe benefits, have to be allowed to become available as quickly as possible.
