Very few penny perps try to make a run for it. I don't know why. Roofie, though, is obviously a stone sociopath. He probably thought he could talk his way out of anything. His decision to represent himself in a criminal trial demonstrates that.

Maybe he suddenly realized it just wasn't going to work, and so hit the road. But that didn't work either.
