Hope you are not accusing me of being indifferent to our nation's gov't inspired reliance on crude. Aside from the easy fixes of using crude products more efficiently, we could, absent gov't morons, junk science, scummy lawyers and enviro whackos, generate most power needs with nuclear energy. The French get 70%+ from nuclear while we remain in thrall to foreign producers.

My point is simple: Left to its own devices, i.e. the market, we would have NO energy crisis. It is GOVERNMENT that caused it and will continue to exacerbate the problem. Naturally an ignorant, self absorbed, and/or indifferent public keeps these unctuous jerks in DC and seems bent on continuing.

Crude would be <$15/bbl if we used nuclear energy and under $30/bbl if Americans would simply drive more efficiently. Ethanol would be MUCH cheaper absent the sugar tarrif... GET THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OUT OF everything except defense, justice and I/S commerce and we would be infinitely better off!!!
