GOF outperformed from late 2009 to early 2010. If you bought it in the middle of 2010 and held it for four years it's under-performed SPY even though now it's now at a huge premium.

I would never ever pay a premium for it. When the bull market ends that premium could disappear almost over-night. That's basically what happened with CFP.

I agree with you that I have not found any CEFs that look reasonable. I bought some PCI recently, it's bond-only and trading at a pretty good discount because I sold all my fixed-income stuff a while ago.

Still I wouldn't really recommend it or any other CEF at the moment.

Maybe iHub would let us create a CEF discussion board. I'd be interested if any has anyone ideas for cheap close-end funds.
