DALLAS (AP) — A longtime Dallas County commissioner has been charged with accepting nearly $1 million in bribes in exchange for providing insider information and voting in favor of projects proposed by various companies, federal authorities announced Friday. John Wiley Price, his chief of staff and two political consultants were in custody after being charged in a 13-count indictment.

Clarence Norman Jr., the deposed Democratic assemblyman and party leader from Brooklyn, was convicted yesterday of extortion in what prosecutors said was a scheme to shake down judicial candidates in exchange for party support. It was his third conviction on corruption charges in 17 months.



Michael McGee, the former firebrand alderman, was sentenced to 6 ½ years in prison Tuesday after he was convicted of using his power over liquor licenses in Milwaukee to shake down business owners for cash, food and cell phones. The sentencing guidelines called for McGee to receive 12 ½ to 15 ½ years in prison. The prosecution asked for a sentence in the middle of that range. The defense requested four years.



The mayor of New Jersey’s capital was arrested at his home Monday morning on corruption charges linked to bribes for a parking garage project that was all made up as part of an FBI sting operation, reports the Times of Trenton. Mayor Tony Mack and Joseph Giorgianni, a local businessman and supporter who is also a convicted sex offender, were both arrested. Mack’s brother, Ralphiel surrendered to authorities later in the morning.

Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel of New York was found guilty by members of the House ethics committee Tuesday, for multiple violations of house rules. Rangel was convicted for improperly fundraising for a community center in his name, failing to disclose more than a half million dollars in assets on financial disclosure forms, and failing to disclose financial arrangements for a villa at the Punta Cana Yacht Club in the Dominican Republic.



Former Prince George's County Exec Jack B. Johnson was sentenced Tues to more than 7 years in federal prison after admitting to a wide-ranging pattern of corruption that permeated virtually every level of county government from health to housing and law enforcement to liquor laws. Johnson, a 62-year-old Dem, was arrested on extortion, bribery and evidence tampering charges in November 2010 while serving out the final weeks of his 8 years as the leader of Maryland's second-most populous county.



Former state senator Kathryn Bowers was sentenced to 16 months in federal prison on Thursday for accepting $11,500 in bribes. Bowers will also be subject to two years of supervised release, although no fine was assessed. She will report to prison at an undetermined date.



Former Newark Mayor Sharpe James was ordered today to serve 27 months in prison and pay a $100,000 fine for fraud and conspiracy, a sentence that capped a spectacular downfall for one of New Jersey's political titans, but one that incensed prosecutors who thought it was too light.



Dianne Wilkerson (born May 2, 1955) is a former Democratic member of the Massachusetts Senate, representing the 2nd Suffolk District from 1993 to 2008. On October 28, 2008, she was arrested on public corruption charges by the FBI for allegedly accepting bribes totaling $23,500. She formally resigned on November 19, 2008. On June 3, 2010 she pleaded guilty to eight counts of attempted extortion.

State Sen. Charles Walker, once among the most powerful African-Americans in state politics, was convicted in federal court Friday of defrauding businesses, a charity and taxpayers in part to pay off gambling debts. The jury deliberated for 20 hours over three days before convicting Walker on 127 of 137 counts including mail fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy.


Former City councilman Larry Seabrook will spend five years in prison for misdirecting hundreds of thousands of dollars for community projects to his girlfriend and family members. Seabrook, 61, was sentenced Tuesday.


Kilpatrick, 42, is charged with 30 crimes, including racketeering conspiracy, bribery, extortion and tax evasion. His father, Bernard, is a co-defendant along with Ferguson. The conspiracy charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. To convict on that count, the jury must find that at least one of them agreed to commit two crimes, such as extortion, bribery or fraud.



A federal jury convicted Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford on Wednesday on all charges of accepting bribes in exchange for funneling $7.1 million in bond business to a prominent investment banker. As a convicted felon, Langford was automatically removed from the office he won in a landslide in 2007.


The jury in State Sen Gary Siplin's grand theft trial returned a guilty verdict Mon afternoon on two charges after his attorneys ended the trial without calling a single witness in his defense. They said they didn't need to put on a defense. Verdict Returned For Senator The jury deliberated about three hours before finding the Orlando Democrat guilty of third-degree felony grand theft of $5,000 or more and misdemeanor using services of employees for his candidacy. No employee was charged.
