It works across the board in all industry's. An auto mechanic that's been working on cars for 30 years will not be able to work on current modeled vehicles without refresher courses. That's why new car lots Like Ford dealership send their mechanics back to school every year. Refusing to do so will cost you your job. The bottom line is there is no comparison to a good current education. It trumps work experience every time. That's why workers that are 45 years old get fired and replaced by someone who just graduated that's 20 years old.

Doesn't matter what stage the company is in. If they want highly qualified talent working for free they take on interns. It's that simple. The benefit for the intern is they get to put on their resume that they worked for a public company or a project for a public company.

and like Hordewithin stated, if they produce good results with the company they can land a job with the company.

LVVV may not be a high tech company but if they want to promote on the internet and increase their internet sales, make commercials, and promote their brands, they need some high tech experts. And interns are the cheapest way to get it all done. It's a win win for everyone, even the shareholders. They could even get a film student to shoot the footage. Even small one time projects can be accomplished for free.
