I have already included the link above under my string of posts re: Dmitry Gabrilovich, and want to add it to Peregrine KOL: Scott Antonia, as we must not forget all the KOL's are here for a specific reason, to further educate the medical community about immuno-oncology and how to best optimize ones immune system, because since they are with Peregrine... and Peregrine is all about optimizing ones immune system via PS Targeting, with drugs that target flipped-PS such as Bavituximab.... I do hope they start to bridge the gap and connecting the dots that many here since all 4 KOL's decided to back Peregrine on Dec 10, 2013.

BRANDON — The loss of a close friend fuels Kathy Greene’s fight against a faceless foe.

Greene is helping to organize the Prelude to a Cure event, “The Ribbon is White — Bring it to Light,” claiming that many people are still in the dark about lung cancer. She lost her good friend, nonsmoker Barbara Bauer, to lung cancer in November 2012.

This year’s Prelude to a Cure fundraiser will take place Nov. 7 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. November is also Lung Cancer Awareness month.

“We were astounded to learn that so many of us had no idea that lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in the U.S.,” Greene said. “The primary misconception is that people who get lung cancer are always smokers. People, and increasingly, women, who never smoked are being diagnosed with lung cancer daily.”

She said the theme of this year’s event was the result of Dr. Lary Robinson’s presentation last year at the White Ribbon Soiree about searching for answers in the dark. Robinson, a thoracic surgeon and co-founder of Prelude to a Cure, will be the keynote speaker again this year. Robinson founded Prelude to a Cure with Dr. Scott Antonia, a nationally renowned thoracic researcher.

“We have designed this year’s event to be a more intimate evening with approximately 80 guests expected,” she said. “Many of these people have stepped up to help sponsor the new Prelude to a Cure website. The goal of the website is to increase awareness, provide answers for patients and families facing a lung cancer diagnosis, and to raise much-needed funding for lung cancer research.”

Greene said she is excited about the Young Investigator Research grant, which is being established to encourage student scientists to explore uncharted possibilities for the causes and treatment of lung cancer.

“The data provided by these grants will enable the Moffitt team to apply for larger federal grants to continue searching for a cure,” she said. “This grant was established in honor of Barbara Bauer because the initial funding was generated from the White Ribbon Soiree event last year held in her memory. Barb Bauer and other people affected by and lost to lung cancer are still the inspiration behind finding a cure.”

Greene, and other volunteers for the fundraising event, worked out with Bauer at the Core Fitness Studio in Valrico. Bauer was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in July of 2011.

The event will include musical entertainment, a live auction and food prepared by Chef Dave West of the Rolling Pin.

There are three levels of sponsorship, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. To learn more, contact Debbie Ploor at Orange Home Decor and Accessories, (813) 681-8686. People who make a $10 donation can receive the “Just Breathe” bracelet that is available on the website at prelude toacure.com.
