LOL. Standard Oil NEVER went out of business. Fact of the matter is Exxon, Mobil, and Chevron were all pieces of Standard Oil at one time. Then the government forced these companies to split up. My guess is that he knew that and rather than talking about Exxon and Chevron both bailing out on the JDZ he substituted the generic Standard Oil, which refers to both companies. Apparently some do not know much of the history of the oil business. Others do.

It looks like Standard Oil was right in bailing. Not much good has happened in the JDZ or for ERHC ever since. Maybe we also now better understand why Exxon and Chevron passed on picking up interest in the other JDZ blocks. And why Total and SNP seem to be long gone too. Seems like a wise move now. At least they found oil in Block 1. ERHC found none.
