"NaS, there was no 1.3GHz Pentium III. There was a 1.3GHz Celeron, and it was not as fast as the 1.4GHz Pentium 4 on the majority of apps."

At the risk of beating a dead horse and reviving an old discussion:

Can anyone on here confirm or deny the actual existance of the PIII 1.3x GHz as seen at http://support.intel.com/support/processors/pentiumiii/corespeeds.htm

1.33 GHz-S1 133 MHz 10 256K 1.33 GHz1 FC-PGA2

It sure looks like a non Celeron PIII at 1.3x GHz to me. Is this just a table of what could be (ala It's a wonderful life) or is this a table of what is?

I originally stated something to the effect that there is a PIII core that runs faster (not clock speed, just application performance in the avg joe mindframe) than the P4 at the initial speed grades (1.3 to 1.5 GHz).

Some countered with statements like: The PIII topped out at a lower speed at the time of the P4 introduction so it isn't a fair comparison.

Some went with there is no 1.3 GHz PIII as such some were higher speeds with lower FSB (celeron) some were higher L2 cache size (Xeon?).

The thing that just triggered this for me is that I opened a pc today that has a PIII 1.2 GHz in it. It almost makes me want to format the drive and setup an OS to benchmark with. Reality says I'll be too busy to take the time to do it right. And even if I did it'd be a moot point as pcs twice as fast don't keep peoples interest nowdays.
