The symbol had a ban put on it so it couldn't be traded to protect people. It was in the court for a long time. And the share structure was no good. There were millions of dollars that was stolen from people and from the company by the stock having so many illegal shares in it that were issued by someone who used to work for the company. The info Scottrade gave you is not all that correct. Scottrades brokers don't know what happened. All they know is it can't be traded. I have Scottrade too. I had the shares removed from my account after going through a bunch of paperwork, but the symbol remains with no shares. I could have the symbol removed too but don't want to go through the hassle. And this is not a regular judge. These cases are prosecuted by the US Justice Department in Federal court. It was so bad that the people who issued the shares illegally were running from the Feds for years.

You can have the shares and symbol removed from your account if you wish, but brokers you have to fill out paperwork for that. The easiest way to get both the symbol and shares removed if you don't like looking at it all the time is to get a copy of the court order saying the shares are voided out and worthless, and the symbol can never be traded.

You can also take the loss on your taxes. Either subtract it from your gains, or if you have loses, add it to your loses. And next to where you write the figures for that in write in that a Federal judge declaired the shares void and worthless and the symbol can never be traded. You don't have to enclose any documentation to prove that.
