I believe they are talking about production consistency being lacking based on this statement.

As far as Homozigosity goes, here is an excerpt from the March 20, 2012 conference call quoting Kim Thompson:

In regard to the Monster silkworm strain, I should let you know that we have long since achieved Homozigosity and the silkworms are most definitively producing monster silk.
