Ex. 5000 shares of a stock at 50 cents or 5000 shares at 1 penny you still had to have 12,500 dollars in your account to sell short, even though you are only using 2500 and 50 respectively.
Another example they said was anything from 2.5-5 dollars you had to have 100% coverage and anything above that to $16 per share you only had to cover 5 dollars per share. Hope this helps.
