One way of looking at this is that the DLA has taken the wind out of the objections that the SIA had. They will also be able to expand the mandate to include other classes as now the suppliers could not care less.

Now instead of reimbursing costs to suppliers, DLA will mark the parts themselves. They save on the reimbursements and spend on the marking set up.

As far as APDN is concerned, they get to mark more and more components and thus increase their authentication world. Also from a traceability point of view, the DLA may ask APDN to create a unique mark for each supplier though they will do the marking themselves. If this is the case, then from APDN's standpoint the situation may change for the better.
