Kenegan, IF MM's were not allowed to short stock, there would absolutely be no market here what-so-ever. They don't hold inventory unless they are given orders to move. MM shorting is not illegal, it's part of the play. The big mm's don't stay short for very long if they can help it but all they have to show is a balanced book between long and short positions, not individual stocks. Do I like it? No, but there's no other way to have a market. If you had to match up individual buys with sells, you couldn't ever get out of one of these small stocks.....
