Sure, there are sometimes large buys at the ask and large sells at the bid. Unfortunately, the latter is far more common of late.

But what about the specific phenomenon I mentioned? As a long, I would be far more comfortable with market makers / others playing games to keep the share price DOWN so they can "pick up cheapies" than I would be with them having to play games to prop UP the share price.
