Possibly the world's most expensive sandwich went on sale in London on Monday - with a price tag of 85 pounds sterling (140 US dollars). It doesn't look much different from the other gourmet sandwiches on offer from the takeaway deli at the Selfridges department store - until you see what's inside.
For a start, there's mayonnaise made from fois gras and black truffle. Then, on a bed of rocket salad, a large slice of Wagyu beef.
Wagyu is the most expensive meat on earth, famed for its marbled fat and tender taste. It comes from Kobe cattle, which reared in the utmost luxury in Japan. They're kept in individual heated stalls, and fed on top-quality grain and beer.
Next up is a helping of brie de meaux, regarded as the finest cheese in Europe. And finally some roasted peppers and cherry tomatoes. Encasing all this are two slices of sour dough bread, fermented for 24 hours.

Selfridges director of food and catering, Ewen Venters, said it was aimed at busy people who appreciate gourmet food. The store said it had taken five advance orders for the sandwich - but that it wasn't expected to become a bestseller.
