As long as it passes the lab tests, they just use it. There are no application tests. Pure barite has a specific gravity of 4.48. The industry uses barite with a specific gravity of 4.2 or 4.1, both of which have API specifications. All barite is the same basically, paritcles of barite, 97% of which passes through a 200 mesh screen. Of course there are some other minerals present and that is why the lower than pure barite specific gravity. Usually, these other particles are quartz based minerals. They don't do application tests.
