I need to correct something I say in my last post.

The reduced head loss would create a bottleneck.

That should read 'increased head loss' and not 'reduced head loss'

Do I dissent?
What we are looking at, in the last segment, is a bottleneck. The first 24 pumps and AOTs on this pipeline will have no effect on the last segment. The question we need to ask is; how will the 25th pump react to oil coming down the pipeline faster than it is capable of pumping (we could be talking about a 10% flow rate increase)? When you get a pile-up (pressure loss due to backflow), the bottleneck moves upstream and affect the previous pump and so on (matter cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system). The company could increase the 25th pump throughput to counter the dynamic pressure change, but I am sure somebody here would argue against that idea.
