blocks of 100 going through every hour or so

You mean there are 5 to 10 (100 share) trades closed together in a row?

This could be a manipulative technique to drive direction. By closing a bid or ask stack (when thin) before time allows it to build. I call it Burst trades.

Here's an old post (added to) about what may be happening.

There are the less frequent, burst trades, which also imply direction to those watching the time & sales. Burst trades need help from a broker. So when you see them, odds are the dark master has a small broker, some where in a strip mall some where, with connections with an M&M, if needed. To close the masters request for closing a large trade order, in pieces. This increases trade fees and many small brokers and M&Ms, if needed, are happy to help.

Most of the time this will happen when the ask stack is not very deep/large and 10 closes will close the .0011 stack, the .0012, then .0013 stacks. Creating inexperienced day trading pennylanders panic BUYING. That's right panic buying. Pennylanders do get emotional and freak when they think they will miss something.

By breaking up their order, it cost more in trade fees, but saves money with cash outlay to cause direction panic buying. If they guessed it would take 10% of the average daily volume to move the stock and placed 1 large order to do it. They may end up buying much more shares then needed. So they break the order into small pieces, so they can stop once the retail herd gets involved and not over buy or sell to create a direction move.

With less cash manipulation power, there are still techniques to drive price direction with a little more work, but less cash needed.

Just so happens this stock went below a buck and may have some large shareholder trying to get back above listing requirements, before a exchange notice.
