People actually believe they can make meaningful contributions to society with twitter posts. What is really scary is public organizations are using Twitter to make the public aware of acute emergencies, local police , and even federal government agencies think they are doing the public a service by posting on twitter. A disaster waiting to happen; if someone hijacks( I refuse to glorify hijacking by calling it hacking) one of those public twitter accounts they could do some serious damage.

Sorry, you can't have it both ways. You can't say that people are silly for thinking Twitter can't have any impact on society, and then immediately turn around and say that a Twitter hijacking can cause immense damage.

Like all media the internet is a reflection of society, right now most developed societies are degenerating into using spin doctors and cronies ; the unbiased analytical review of data has fallen to the wayside. Why do the hard work when you may not like the answer, when you could use your spin doctors and cronies to get the answer you want.

Some would say that this board is a perfect example of that.
