Actually the article doesn't confirm anything. There are at least 4 witnesses that basically saw the cop grab Brown and Brown try to get away from the officer. A gun went off inside the car and Brown broke free. When the gun went off his hands were outside the car. He started to run away. The cop exited his car and started firing at Brown as Brown was fleeing - in case you are not away that is illegal to use deadly force when the cops life was not in danger and it's not when Brown was running away. A bullet may or may not have hit him and he abruptly turned with his hands up. The cope then fires more shots and executes him.

Now the above is the basic story of 4 named witnesses - nothing from law enforcement confirms anything to the contrary other than rumor.
