Dan, thanks for your prospective not that it has changed over the last 2 years...

It is not realistic to expect that major chip sellers like Rochester would be marking parts, you guys generate billions in sales and changing proven processes while adding another layer of complexity over tiny DLA contracts makes no sense for any major authorized source, this is why 3rd party marking was "invented", this was expected and I don't think it can be used as an argument to say DNA marking is a bad idea.

I agree that marking is NOT making the supply chain more reliable for all the reasons you mentioned but it was never meant to be counterfeit prevention measure although it was sold under such label, DNA marking takes place mostly for tracking purposes and DLA is willing to pay extra to have this tagging system in place. I fully expect that DLA mandate will get expanded at some point to other classes.
