When you think about your favorite pair of running shorts, you probably don't imagine one of the strongest plastics in the world. But next year, Reebok will be releasing a line of fitness apparel that will be made of the bullet proof, knife proof, lightweight material Kevlar.

Previously, the Canton, Massachusetts-based company only used the strong plastic material as part of their line of hockey gear. Soon, though, you'll be able to wear the lightweight and tough as nails material to the gym, whether you're going for a run on the treadmill or deadlifting weights.

In a recent article in the New York Times, "Workout Clothes With High-Tech Twist Sell Briskly," Chris Froio, vice president for training at Reebok, spoke about the new line of Kevlar gear, to be released in 2015. While many wouldn't think that a bulletproof material would be necessary for a workout, however rigorous your regime may be, Froio attributed Kevlar's magic combination of lightweight material and durability.

Froio told the New York Times:

Lighter and stronger is what we’re looking at. If everyone is using the same types of yarns and the suppliers, the one key thing you need to do is have a unique selling point, something simple to understand that provides a benefit the consumer really values.
The Reebok executive recognizes that when fitness buffs shell out cash for a new piece of gear, they expect it to last, and that can be a tricky thing for workout apparel to nail, considering how often they're used and washed. Kevlar apparel, if you couldn't guess, will last. Reebok tops, bottoms and footwear will make up the Kevlar line, and will be sold beginning in 2015.

For right now, if you're looking to venture out of the mesh-shorts-and-tank-tops box, Reebok sells a pair of training shorts geared toward CrossFitters (a Reebok affiliate) made of Cordura, a material often found in luggage and backpacks as well as performance gear, as well as other apparel items.

Not looking for workout gear at all? You're in luck – apparently Reebok has been dishing out their own line of bacon at CrossFit events, a version of everyone's favorite meat slab that follows the Paleo diet. Yum. (We think.)

BostInno reached out to Chris Froio for comment; we will update the piece if we hear back.
