Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a terrace that is next to the white channel, not part of the white channel. Also, The white channel was never really mined. C.L. Best passed over it and went on to other areas that he thought was more lucrative.

It is a new source of gold that we didn't know existed until now. It adds to the overall value of the mine. It is also closer to the enterance than the black channel which means it should be more cost effective to mine this area.
