As for standards, the national Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is currently developing methods to qualify AM materials, processes, and parts. They do not expect this to be complete until 2018.

From Sigma's recent 10k filing:

we are part of a large research team, led by the Edison Welding Institute, to be awarded a grant funded by the National Institute of Standards ("NIST") to ensure that quality parts are produced and certified for use in products made by a variety of industries and their supply chains. The emphasis is on providing tools needed for additive manufacturing applications to progress from prototype to market-ready.

Is a penny stock risky? Absolutely, but it seems everywhere you look regarding additive manufacturing, be it aerospace, military, biomedical, etc, THEY (Sigma and team) are right there. I really feel they are diversified in their software applications and are front runners with developing this technology. Just IMO, and how can you not get a little excited about all this groundbreaking technology?! Everyday it seems companies from all areas are utilizing 3d printing in new and amazing ways.
