Long time investors are expecting much higher prices and are holding their shares. This shows the two perspectives quite clearly. As you mentioned, long-time investors are expecting higher prices (or are unwilling to sell at a loss) and are holding their shares. The shorting indicates that there are a significant number of players who are expecting lower prices in the short term.
