RE: Oracle "customized silicon". It smells like BS to me. The Oracle release clearly mentions that they use the Xeon E7-8895 v2, which has been available on the general market for months.

There are soms posts from Intel employees that mention a "customized" or "optimized" SKU, but neither provides any details on what they supposedly changed for Oracle.

My theory is that they at most tweaked some microcode or control registers through the BIOS/UEFI (e.g. power management, prefetch). Hardly worth mentioning as "customized silicon".
