Plus there is a gigantic barrier to entry in the automotive manufacturing world which likely doesn't exist in the flashlight business, at least not to the same extent.

As an employee of the company when the patents where filed Wayne likely assigned his ownership over as a part of the 'works for hire' provision in his employment agreement. Same with any tech based company where IP can be created.

Those same Tesla patents have numerous inventors listed while the owner of the IP was the company itself.
