one of the items I've argued about w/TIVO mgmt and IR is the idea of making their UI MSO-agnostic.
my thought has been that a software licensing model whereby the UI is pre-loaded on other OEMs' hardware, per MSFT Windows, that allows TIVO to capture an upfront lump-sum licensing payment (and the acceleration in cash flows) is potentially a better model than the one they have now.
not only would the economics be more favorable as described above via the acceleration in cash flow generation, but the logistics of fighting inertia at the MSO level and convincing them that TIVO offers the best UI would also be circumvented - you'd effectively be giving the UI decision to the OEM/consumer vs. the MSO and the former group would naturally would pick TIVO out of capitalistic/competitive rationale...
