NioCorp reports more drilling results

NioCorp Developments Ltd., the Canadian company that hopes to develop a niobium mine in Johnson County, on Wednesday released more results from test drilling that it said "exceed expectations."

The company said it found niobium in places it hadn't encountered the rare metal before, as well as higher grades of it than had been previously seen at the site near Elk Creek, about 70 miles southeast of Lincoln.

NioCorp President Peter Dickie said in an email that the initial drilling results "far exceed recovery rates from the three current (niobium) producers."

"Our initial results have us very excited," he said.[color=red][/color]Dickie said the company will work to fine-tune its process and replicate it on a larger scale, a necessary step to demonstrate the viability of a commercial mine.

NioCorp is hoping to develop such a mine on the site, which industry analysts estimate would take about $400 million to build.
