Actually activity on penny boards is down enormously from the late 90s. Raging Bull is dead and so is Silicon Investor. There's been some rebound in the past year, but only because of the marijuana sector.
What remains in pennyland are often fairly savvy flippers, mostly with gambling addictions. Unlike the late 90s, very few are mortgaging their homes to buy junk or putting their retirement money in it. I saw a few penny "Investors" go bankrupt years ago from averaging down. But not recently.
Yes, remaining players treat this stuff more sensibly... like lottery tickets. Of course, I don't play lotteries.
