OT ajtj

does your employee know that at one time 1 pound = 12 ounces?
1 lb = 16 oz only after ~1600-1800 AD (??)
in roman history, 1 libre (pound) = 12 unica (ounces)...

here's the british system re: weight

1 ton = 20 hundredweights
1 hundred weight = 2 half hundredweights
1 half hundred weight = 4 stones
1 stone = 2 clove
1 clove = 7 pounds
therefore, 1 ton = 2,240 lbs...(i believe 1 american ton = 2000 lbs, right?)

i have to pull this from my very long term memory..

unit of weight in china
1 jin = 16 liang (tael)..1 tael = ~ 1.2 oz...(i believe tael is still used to measure gold in china & HK)
street vendor & some grocery stores in the far east still use
the old weighing scale (similar to the one held by the goddess of justice)..

regards
tommy
