that's one good reason not to unveil anything significant. there are a few other reasons.

They don't have the patent yet, so there could be concerns about intellectual property being stolen at the moment. Not that some Chinese companies generally give a damn about patents anyways.

Giving out significant information would pressure Solar 3d to finalize the cell before it is ready.

They might want to line up all their ducks in a row first. JN might want to find a manufacturer for the test prototype first, before unveiling news. Then again you would think he would garner more attention and possibly better offers (a bidding war) if he released info on the cell first.

I think its possible Jim is trying to balance keeping the cell news uninformative at the moment and keeping investors happy. So he has been referring to the status of the cell but in a very generic way each press release.
