big boz, Briar is correct. In this case there were 438,951 stocks bought & conversely 438,951 stocks were sold,
For every buy, there has to be a sell. So, a total volume of 877,902 stocks were bought & sold.
Every transaction has 2 sides. Buy side / sell side = 1 trade.
This is the way I understand it but I have been wrong before.
