Ihub is definitely a for profit business.

The money you paid gets you the data. It doesn't give it to you ad free. I think It's an additional $10 / month to remove the ads. It's on that long list of features that you have to pay to get.

I'm paying an additional $14 / month just so I can PM other members. PM doesn't cost anything extra for the site. It's free on every other message board I've ever been a member of.
