Just reading through a back copy of that article someone sent earlier and found this article about Sigma. Just more generic info on what's going on but was interesting to read that last paragraph. I have recently been reading about how Apple may be looking to have scanners to scan and then 3D print objects. I am sure it is not 'new' thinking per se, but i was surprised to see Vivek Dave mentioning it back last Autumn and talking about it in article about Sigma Labs. Shows they are on the ball and looking at many varied opportunities. They also started talking more about Printrite3D 'Apps' this year.

I am not insinuating anything in particular other than i was surprised about this mention. Great to see them looking at all options to see where they can make a difference, and thus profit

Quote from Autumn 2013

“At Sigma, we are trying to address all of those,” Davé said, adding that he thinks the additive manufacturing arena is “a great area because it’s (just now) being defined. It’s not a mature industry but the scope and scale has increased dramatically.
“It involves the potential integration of many, many fields when working at the boundaries,” he said, citing digital scanning. A person could use an iPhone to perform a 3D scan, for example. “That’s where it gets exciting and there’s many opportunities. I think in the next three to five years, opportunities will double for this industry.”
