Nick Cassavetes' 'Yellow' Finally Gets a Release Date After Almost Two Years of Waiting

Medient Studios has announced it will release Nick Cassavetes' 2012 film, "Yellow," in theaters on August 29. The film will open in 5 markets -- New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago -- followed by a nationwide expansion.

"Yellow" debuted back in 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival to much acclaim. Over the course of 2013, the film made its rounds on the festival circuit, screening at SXSW, Seattle, Munich, Catalina and Stiges.

Despite the praise it received from critics for its brave, unrelenting experimental narrative, "Yellow" failed to get picked up by a major distributor -- which is perhaps the reasoning behind Medient's decision to self-distribute. Cassavetes went on to direct the much derided "The Other Woman," which came out this spring.

"This is a film for the ages, a film that will survive all of us," says 'Yellow' producer Manu Kumaran, also the Chairman of Medient Studios. "Every screening of the film to an American audience has ended in a standing ovation and we expect the film to perform well at the box office."

"Yellow" is a surreal narrative that centers on a substitute teacher, played by Heather Wahlquist, who escapes reality by fantasizing about parallel worlds populated by freaks -- human and otherwise. Melanie Griffith, Lucy Punch, Gena Rowlands, David Morse, Daveigh Chase, Max Thieriot, Riley Keough, Ethan Suplee, Brendon Sexton and Ray Liotta round out the star-studded cast.
